Paul Swinand

Head Coach

Paul Swinand is the leader, chief organizer and head coach of the Pony Shop Juniors team and related juniors cycling programs at the Northbrook Velodrome. He has been an accomplished amateur and collegiate racer, starting as a junior in the late 1970s in New Jersey, and having the fortune to compete in multiple countries. Paul resides in Evanston with his wife Sarah Torri and three children who are all active in cycling. In addition to organizing rides, practices, races and programs, Paul coaches our 17-18 year old juniors and stores much of the donated equipment the team owns despite requests from Sarah to get rid of some bikes.

Rory Jack

Rory began racing cyclocross while attending University of Washington in Seattle, rising through the categories in the famously wet and Belgian-esque mud of the Pacific Northwest. After relocating to Chicago in 2017 and infamously landing on a Chicago Cross Cup podium in the midst of a cross country bike tour, Rory continued training and racing in the North American Pro UCI circuit with the Pony Shop Elite team. Rory culminated his racing with international ranking; a 21st place finish in hometown Nationals at Steilacoom, WA; and a trip to 'cross motherland of Flanders, Belgium before settling into a mentorship role with Pony Shop Juniors.

Parent Coaches

There are a number of parents that have in the past, and continue to support the team with their time. Special mention goes to Coach Nick and Coach Dave who have donated significant time and resources into making the team what it is today.
